The question is really why are you trying to shell these targets from some miles offshore when if you are going to war, you have air ?, which can also observe the target immediately before, during and...

Re: Closing the Gap: A study on the JFSC/NSFS/NFS gaps

I'm really not a fan of 16" guns being returned to service. I was just pointing out some things in a particular post. I'd go for the navy adopting 155mm army munitions, personally.

I agree, but I wonder at just how much commonality in actual physical components there can be between land and sea systems to make the disruption and cost worth it. I also wonder what all these super...

Trouble:Yes, I agree. I also agree about the commonality problem. The navy tends to go with highly mechanized systems not appropriate for army use because of their size and weight, and that effects...

Re: Closing the Gap: A study on the JFSC/NSFS/NFS gaps

You are going to have the aircraft anyway. They aren't there only for CAS. They are much more versatile than guns. A destroyer is much more useful than just a NGS platform. You have to have them, so...

Funny you should say that, when the Zumwalt class is nothing more than a NGS platform ( and a poor one at that, given that given that the design being built now has lost 2000 tons of displacement,...

Yes, it was irrelevant. Those 16” guns had absolutely nothing to do with the troops getting into theatre, the heavy armoured wing establishing itself and doing the massive left flanking manoeuvre well...
